Ontira’s solutions have received awards commending their excellence and contribution to the transit industry. Ontira’s innovations are changing the way people travel – with intelligent technology for intelligent transportation.

2005 G. Herbert Stout Award – Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) was awarded for their web-based trip planning capability, which was designed and implemented by Ontira Communications.

CATS received the G. Herbert Stout Award for excellence by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction during the opening session of the North Carolina 2005 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) conference in Winston-Salem. This award is given out once every two years to the city or county agency that demonstrates exemplary use of GIS.

Ontira Communications designed and implemented the web-based capability to the existing CATS trip planner. This capability benefits both customers and employees in obtaining bus schedules and route information. Using advanced GIS technology, the system provides trip planning and access to current scheduling information via the Internet 24/7.

2004 National Transportation Week Ontario Award – Toronto Transit
Commission (TTC)

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) received an award of recognition during the 2004 National Transportation Week Ontario Awards for the Wheel-Trans RideLine system, which is an implementation of Ontira's HandyLine software. Wheel-Trans is the city of Toronto's accessible transit service.

HandyLine is an automated touch-tone interactive voice response (IVR) system that allows Wheel-Trans customers to book, cancel, and confirm trips via telephone. Customers can book trips on Wheel-Trans without speaking to an agent. HandyLine also provides information about accessible transit services. Installed by Ontira in 2002, HandyLine has reduced hold times, increased the availability of transit information, and enabled Wheel-Trans to increase trip availability with the same number of vehicles.
