Ontira’s TripFinder Goes Public in Vegas to Deliver Web-Based Trip Planning
Vancouver, BC - November 20, 2006 - The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) has launched TripFinder, a web-based transit trip planning application distributed by Ontira Communications Inc. (OCI®). With TripFinder, RTC customers can now plan their transit trips in Las Vegas online, 24 hours a day.
To obtain detailed trip itineraries, a transit user simply visits the "Transit Trip Planner" on the RTC’s website (http://www.rtcsnv.com), enters an origin and destination, and TripFinder returns a trip plan, complete with dynamic mapping, fare information, walking distances, and more. Users can also customize their trip plans, by specifying criteria such as maximum walking distance or minimum number of transfers. The full address-to-address, multi-modal trips are generated by TripFinder’s state-of-the-art routing algorithm.
“The goal of this project was to provide users with a useful and convenient tool for planning their trips,” commented David Swallow, the RTC’s Principal Civil Engineer. “Ultimately, we hope the Transit Trip Planner will make public transportation more accessible and allow users to make informed choices about transportation options.”
“With each successful deployment, Ontira's TripFinder is demonstrating the impact intelligent technology can have on the way people travel. TripFinder is helping to encourage higher ridership levels, by making trip planning available to the public 24/7 in a user-friendly manner,” says Gerald Bachmayer, Director of Ontira Communications.
The RTC’s schedule data is incorporated into the trip planning system by Ontira's DataLoader, which obtains data from the RTC's Orbital TMS CAD/AVL (Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automated Vehicle Location) system and loads this into TripFinder. RTC’s Transit Trip Planner covers a service area of about 500 square miles and incorporates the fixed route lines of CAT, Silver Star, Deuce, and MAX.
