Ontira web implementation wins award for CATS
VANCOUVER, BC, May 24, 2005 - The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has been awarded for their web-based trip planning capability designed and implemented by Ontira Communications.

CATS received the G. Herbert Stout Award for excellence by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction during the opening session of the North Carolina 2005 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) conference in Winston-Salem. This award is given out once every two years to the city or county agency that demonstrates exemplary use of GIS.

Ontira Communications designed and implemented the web based capability to the existing CATS trip planner which was made available to the public in March. This capability benefits both customers and employees in obtaining bus schedules and route information. Using advanced GIS technology, the system assists customers with trip planning and access to current scheduling information via computer 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week.

Ontira Communications (www.ontira.com) has been providing multimedia information solutions to transit companies across North America since 1984.

CATS (www.ridetransit.org) is the public transit provider in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
