Ontira's HandyLine Wins Award in Toronto
VANCOUVER, BC, June 8 - Today, the Ontario Transportation Minister, the Honourable Harinder Takhar, presented the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) an award of recognition for the Wheel-Trans RideLine system. The award was one of a number of National Transportation Week Ontario Awards presented to the TTC. Wheel-Trans is the city of Toronto's accessible transit service. The RideLine system is an implementation of Ontira's HandyLine software.
HandyLine is an automated touch-tone interactive voice response (IVR) system. Wheel-Trans customers call HandyLine to book, cancel, and confirm trips. Customers can book trips on Wheel-Trans without speaking to an agent. HandyLine also provides information about accessible transit services.
Ontira Communications installed HandyLine in Toronto in 2002. HandyLine handles 3,000 calls a day. HandyLine has reduced hold times and increased the availability of transit information. Wheel-Trans has also increased trip availability with the same number of vehicles.
Since 1994, the National Transportation Week Ontario Awards have recognized many TTC employees and programs. National Transportation Week is organized by Canada's transportation industry.
The Toronto Transit Commission (www.city.toronto.on.ca/ttc) is the public transportation provider in the city of Toronto. Ontira Communications (www.ontira.com) has been providing multimedia information solutions to transit companies across North America since 1984.
