Ontira Acquires US Patent for Transit Information Technology
VANCOUVER, BC - Ontira Communications Inc. has acquired patent protection for its IVR (Interactive Voice Response) automated transit information technology. US Patent No. 5,214,689, entitled Interactive Transit Information System, covers technology that enables callers to access transit information by responding to prompts and entering information on a touchtone telephone keypad.

This patent ensures Ontira's proprietary DTMF (touchtone) and combined DTMF/Automated Speech Recognition-based automated information systems are protected by law.

Ontira customer IVR installations are protected under this patent and the terms of U.S. patent legislation from third party claims against the technology. No other transit IVR vendor can protect their customers' investments with this level of security.

Ontira's IVR technology allows public transit riders to access bus schedules and route information without waiting on hold for a customer service agent. The transit company integrates Ontira's IVR systems into their existing call center structure, enabling them to serve more callers without additional labour expense. Rather than wait on hold for the next available agent, callers simply access their ride information using a touchtone phone.

Ontira Communications has been providing multimedia information solutions to transit companies since 1984.
