Ontira Awarded Web Trip Planning Contract in Ottawa
VANCOUVER, BC- Ontira Communications has been contracted by OC Transpo in Ottawa, ON to install a web-based trip planning system for their commuter train and transit operations. The Ontira information system will enable transit riders to plan their trips from beginning to end over the Internet.
Because the Ontira system is directly connected to the transit trip planning software and mapping software, riders are able to access more robust information in addition to train and bus schedules. OC Transpo's website will allow riders to select their starting location and destination by clicking on a map, selecting a landmark or typing in an address. After stating the desired travel time, BusLine retrieves the travel information, including any transfer points, and presents it to the rider in easy-to-follow directions.
"Our new web product is convenient for the rider, and cost-effective for OC Transpo", explains Ontira director Gerald Bachmayer. "Many people prefer to find information on the Internet, rather than wait on hold for a customer service agent. And since live staff is not required to assist these riders, the transit agency saves money".
As part of a larger installation, Ontira's system is expected to be online in the fall of 2003.
Ontira Communications has been providing multimedia information solutions to transit companies across North America since 1984.
